Day: 6

Date: 10 May 2001 (Thursday)

Start:

End: Saugatuck/Holland MI (0 miles)

Still at my brother John’s house outside Holland, Michigan.

We woke up and found turkeys in the yard outside the trailer. One tom and four hens. Watched them for a while, then tried to get a picture. But the moment they heard noises, they departed quickly. The picture will only show the sterns of two hens.

Dolores & I went to Holland. We took in Veldheer’s tulip farm (ordered some for delivery in October), then went to the local RV place to get an indoor/outdoor thermometer for the trailer. We wound up talking with a guy who had gone to Alaska last year and had some interesting stories about traveling in a caravan with 35 others.

We went downtown to 8th street and looked around. Had lunch at the Eighth Street Grille (Hansen’s Drug Store when I was a kid) that was very good. Walked to Graves Place and watched the exhibition by the Klompen dancers (Tulip Time tradition – Tulip Time festival started yesterday). Then a little shopping including a Mom’s Day card for mom and back to John’s "farm".

Nancy had gone to work, so that left Dolores & John & I wondering what to do. We rang up Bill Steininger, who decided we all should go to the What-not Inn for dinner. Not only that, he came to get us and paid for dinner. We had a lot of fun gabbing and ran into some of Bill and John’s friends.

Back to the farm again and wound down and to bed.
