Day: 7
Date: 11 May 2001 (Friday)
Start:
End: Saugatuck/Holland MI (0 miles)
Still at my brother John’s house outside Holland, Michigan.
This was bird day. Dolores saw a bluebird, chickadees, titmouse, orioles, a scarlet tanager, plus the usual goldfinches and cardinals. Also saw a gray squirrel in one of the bird feeders.
All four of us went into Saugatuck before lunch. Nancy and Dolores took off shopping and John & I went to the hardware store to get things he needed. We met for lunch at Pumpernickel’s – the sandwich place – which was good as always.
Then more shopping with a stop at the Sand Bar Saloon. Back home, then I went to get Mom. We gave Mom her Mother’s Day presents and cards. Dolores gave Nancy a soft Noah’s Ark toy to keep at her house for her grandchildren to play with.
John & Erica Maddox turned up, then Niel & Gisele with Makai and two of his cousins and new little Maya Carlson. We had steaks and other things and beer and talked and listened to the Tiger ball game and CD’s on into the night.
Bill Steininger showed up at 8:30 or so from his bowling tournament. He didn’t do all that well, but his friends did well.
I took Mom home, encountering two deer just around the corner from John’s driveway. Then we saw the higher fireworks from the shoot staged at Kollen Park to celebrate the start of Tulip Time.
Cool day, never got much above 50. Thunderstorms last night, mist this morning, sunny in the late afternoon.
