Date: 7 July 2001 (Saturday)
Start: Montana Services RV Park, Carcross YT
End: Downtown RV Park, Watson Lake YT (260 miles)
The temperature was 52f early and cloudless this morning. By the time we’d finished breakfast it was cloudy again. Very changeable weather.
We hooked up and took off on YK-8 (the Carcross Cutoff) to Jake’s Corner and then south (actually east) on the Alaskan Highway.
While on the Carcross Cutoff, we saw a couple of colonies of rodents, probably arctic ground squirrels. After that, we saw no animals at all. They must be on vacation.
There were many RV’s on the way north and some (fewer) going back south. The weather stayed mostly cloudy and the temperature reached 66f at Watson Lake as we arrived around 2:30. It was a pretty dull trip, actually.
We arrived at a park we used coming up, and washed the truck and trailer. Then we parked and ate an early dinner in the little house in the big parking lot in Watson Lake. We shopped at the small stores (2) but didn’t make any purchases.
Dolores went off to church while I did some chores – she said later there were about 35 people in the little mission church, which filled it.
Then we settled in for the night.
