Date: 11 July 2001 (Wedday)

Start: Northern Lights RV Park, Dawson Creek BC

End: South Park RV Park, Prince George BC (260 miles)

The temperature was 58f under blue skies when we arose. It stayed nice all day, reaching 77f at one time. Each of us noted at some point in the night that it was dark, really dark, like "black" outside. We’ve been in the land of the midnight sun so long that we’d grown accustomed to dusk or something brighter all night.

The caravan that had met at last night’s RV park took off this morning, not quite en masse but close. One clown had a loudspeaker on his rig that played "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" and played it (very loudly) as he passed through the campground on his way out. Three guys were seen fashioning a noose, but he got away.

We ate our donuts from the bakery and made ready to hit the road again.

We ran east, then south, from Dawson Creek, still on BC-97, roughly paralleling BC Rail’s main line to Prince George. At Chetwynd, we refueled and thought once more that this would be a nice place to stay briefly.

We kept running, with traffic getting thicker as we approached PG. Getting through the PG traffic was a little hectic due to construction, but we finally pulled into the campground on the far side (south side) of PG.

This campground is easily the nicest we’ve seen since Fairbanks. It’s nicely wooded with lots of space. The grass is newly mowed. The equipment is in fine shape. The owners are nice. Mark this one down as a must-do if in the neighborhood.

We did a little laundry then sat outside and read for a bit. Then we grilled steaks and ate. I received the e-mail and responded to three.

We’ll be going on in the morning but sort of wish we’d stay here another day.
