Day 46
Start: Rockwood Park CG, Saint John, NB
End: Bar Harbor KOA, Bar Harbor, ME
Miles: 200
The high today was 84f in Maine and the low was 53f last night in New Brunswick. It rained hard during
the night as the front went through, but dawn found the sun out. High, thin, clouds came out later, but it
was still a nice day.
We’re back in the states. Diesel fuel is much less expensive, everything else costs more since we don’t get
the Canadian money exchange benefit now.
The drive from Saint John to Calais, ME was uneventful. Then we crossed the border. Having our
passports saved all those questions about who are you and where do you live. Customs waived the duty on
the extra wine we brought in (which is only $0.18 per liter). But they looked all through the trailer and
asked questions on weapons being brought in, etc. It made me feel a little antsy, but I’m glad they’re doing
it.
The rest of the drive was uneventful to Ellsworth. Then we picked up the Bar Harbor traffic. This place is
a mob scene. For you Michiganders, think of Saugatuck times 10, plus lobsters. For those in Wisconsin,
it’s two or three Lake Genevas with lobsters.
We toured Acadia National Park and
looked at all the things one is supposed to see. Then we went to
dinner downtown (downtown is the village of Bar Harbor in the town(ship) of Bar Harbor). Dolores
increased her lobster taking on this trip – now she has had one or more lobsters in five provinces and two
states. Dinner was very nice.
We returned to the campground to take it easy. Sunset came early, since we’re now back on Eastern time.
We’re off to lower Maine tomorrow.
