Day 49
Start: Brattleboro North KOA, Brattleboro, VT
End: River Beach Campsites, Milford, PA
Miles: 298
The high today was 95f and the low was 68f last night. It was hot, very hazy, very humid, and quite
miserable.
The trip today could have been nice but for the heat and humidity. We went down the Connecticut River
from Brattleboro, then west on the Massachusetts Turnpike to the Hudson Valley, then down the New York
Throughway to Newburgh. There, we joined I-84 west to Matamoras, Pennsylvania and the campground.
Since you join the Mass Turnpike way down in a valley and head into the Berkshires immediately, it seems
as though the road only goes up. Similarly, you get on I-84 in the valley and head up into the Poconos, and
again it seems to only go up. The truck had all it could do to get up the hills at a good speed with the trailer
while not overheating.
The campground we were going to use (Tri-State RV) had been struck several times by lightning last night
and was still without power. They checked and found space for us at River Beach Campsites, down the
Delaware River a few miles. We set up there, turned on the air conditioning, and sat. After a bit, I went
out to fill up the truck for tomorrow.
Now we’re going to have a steak, baked potato, and salad dinner with choice of different wines or ale.
Then we’re going to sit around and do nothing. Tomorrow we go home.
This is the final page of the comments for each day. The last day was
uneventful and we reached home safely.
