Well, we got up at 1:30am to see if the Aurora Borealis was happening and viewable. Nope. Back to sleep.
We got up again at a more reasonable time, ate breakfast next door at Fast Eddie's, and headed down the Alaska Highway for Canada.
About 70 miles down the road is the border between the US and Canada, between Alaska and the Yukon. We stopped and took pictures and fooled around (one foot in each country, etc.).
A short while later, we came upon two ptarmigan walking across the road (no, this is not a chicken joke). They fly rather awkwardly, so they elected to hike faster once they saw us. Funny-looking little things.
About 50 miles later we came around a bend and saw the moose of the day. This one was bashful and walked into the woods about the time we came up to it. This one was another female.
We stopped later at a lookout over the Kluane River; two birds kept flying around us. Maybe they were moochers or maybe their nest was nearby and they were guarding it.
The road between the border and the campground is under construction in several places as the government steps up to fixing the whole stretch. Some of it is great, some is very old and ill-maintained because it will be replaced soon, and so forth.
Then we stopped at our elected place to spend the night. It didn't look much like its pictures in the publicity handouts. We parked next to an electrical outlet, but couldn't get the trailer level. We got our money back and left. We stopped then at the Cottonwood RV Campground, where we have stayed before. There's not much at Cottonwood, but the view along or across Kluane Lake is wonderful, and the sites are level.
Dolores ran around taking pictures of flowers. Then we both took a hike around the place.
Then we fixed up a simple dinner and ate.
Now it's computer chores and settle, or maybe take another hike.
