What follows is a re-creation of a web site from very old data and pictures, plus a few notes. It will not be smooth, but it will show you what we did.
In 2007 a group of submariners took over a cruise ship. It wasn’t an act of piracy, but a convention.
The United States Submarine Veterans, Inc (USSVI) organizations in the Pacific Northwest came up with the idea and sold it to the officers of USSVI. Then they worked diligently with the local Bremerton AAA travel agency to make it happen.
A bunch of the USSVI people from all over the US became interested. Somehow, up-front money came together in such magnitude that they chartered MS Oosterdam of the Holland America line for a week to perform an up-and-back trip to Alaska.
A number of sponsorships were solicited and responses received with various items (Budweiser with some beer, for instance). Finally, a sufficient number of submariners and guests signed up and made it a submariner-only cruise.
The beauty of this was that, even if you didn’t know a person you met, there was a good chance you both knew someone else.
Dolores & I made the trip and we’re very happy that we did. Come on along with us by use of the navigation buttons.
