2013-France

Burgundy, Provence & Monte Carlo

This is our second major trip this year. This time we’ll do it with friends Glenn & Marylou, and mostly by river-cruise. River cruising is great - one can unpack in one town and be taken to other places in a leisurely manner with fewer than 176 fellow travelers.. At most stopping places, tours are furnished for education and/or fun. And, of course, wonderful food and good wine is part of the package, both on board and ashore.

We will be using Vantage Travel on this trip.

The basic plan is to fly the Atlantic to Paris, spend a day and night there, then train to the boat, and go down the Saône & Rhône rivers. When we run out of river, we’ll bus to Monte Carlo for a night and then fly home.

We’ll be traveling through some of France’s notable wine and food districts. We’ll be seeing Roman artifacts and other antiquities. Touch a button above and we’ll show you how we got there and what we did. The buttons are arranged first row across the top followed by the second row across the top.

UNFORTUNATELY, the trip was totally changed by high water on the rivers of Europe. The river cruise ship could not move. Vantage did what they could to entertain us, but the trip was disappointing in general and ridiculous in a couple of particulars. As you examine this site, note the “plan” vs “actuals” descriptions to see the changes.
