20160620 It went about as planned. Photos (few)
We rose & did breakfast. We did our last packing. Light rain, fog & clouds. We checked out and joined the car to take us to London City Airport, which is a tiny little thing hidden away in the old Docklands area. The only runway is less than 5,000 feet long and that dictates the type of aircraft that can use the place. Beyond that, there is no taxiway for part of the length of the runway, so aircraft must use the runway for that part of their preparation for takeoff. Out little Embraer 170 was very quick to the takeoff point and climbed like mad after that, until going into the maze of flight paths that lead in (out) of London.
The flight scheduled to take an hour to Dublin actually took ten minutes less. We conquered the confusing path to "luggage reclaim" and then out through customs. A taxi driven by Mr Dunne took us to Wynn's Hotel, which is in the midst of a construction zone and is having some done themselves. The lift is not operable currently so we have to climb one flight, then take the service lift to our room 405. But we have a nice view of the bottom of O'Connell Street, the main street north of he Liffey River.
We went out for a hike, which included going south across O'Connell's Bridge, then a stop at Carroll's (there are many branches of this store) for Irish stuff, and then back across the Liffey on the Ha'Penny Bridge. There was a small book store marked "Closing" so we stopped and bought a few little books. Since we'd had no lunch, we stopped at the Grand Central for food. That was a good choice as the food was quite good. But our feet were noticing the pavement so we returned to the room to elevate them and do some preparation for tomorrow. Everything we don't need on the tour goes into the orange carry-on to go into storage here.
The TV works, the internet works, we're next to a good restaurant (Grand Central Cafe), and the bar is open. What's not to like?
