2018 Cruise

The older we get, the better we were.

27 October, Saturday. At sea.

At 1300 we are banging along at 19 knots on course 062* headed for Fort Lauderdale. We are following another cruise liner along the north shore of western Cuba, which is visible in the distance.

We just finished our Mariner's Brunch (for persons who have sailed Holland America several times) and met two nice couples at table. It was located at the very stern, overlooking the wake. The Canadian couple was quite worried over how the country will be affected with their full access to marijuana.

Our cabin crew seems eager to have us off, since they put out our luggage for packing. We reviewed the disembarkation package, then went to Guest Services and changed it to get off last. Thus we can stay in the cabin longer; the hotel won't be ready for us in either case. We'll probably throw everything into the minivan when we get there and drive around for a while.

We packed as much as we can for the moment. We'll finish tonight and put out the larger bags for the crew to take ashore.

Later, we did the happy hour thing. Saidia won a bunch in the casino so she bought us all a round of drinks. Since the happy hour was second-drink-$2, this meant I had four drinks. I didn't finish the last one, as we went off to dinner in the Lido.

We looked around later to see if anyone was still up and talking but didn't find anyone. Returned to the cabin, put out the luggage, and went to bed.

28 October, Sunday. Fort Lauderdale

We rose at 0700 and found the ship in her berth at Port Everglades. Did breakfast in the Lido with part of the gang and said our goodbyes to those we saw.

Then back to the cabin to wait for our turn to disembark. Did computer things while waiting.

The disembarkation process went very smoothly, all through it. And we caught the hotel shuttle as it was loading. At the hotel, there was a room unused the night before, so we checked in and went to the room.

Wow, what luck.
