This was a long full day. We'll sleep well tonight.

First we went on a ride to see things. First on the tour was the church Alto Vista way up on a hill. It was built in 1750 but later fell into disrepair. Later it was restored and is now active again. It's very small. The stations of the cross are on posts next to the road leading up to it. It's in a very dry, cactus, location with a distant view of the sea.

Coming off the hill we stopped at the Aruba Aloe Museum and Store. Obviously, we sniffed our way around the place. And we fell for the for-two-dollars-more-you-can-get-this sales pitch. But we got a few nice things.

We returned to the apartment for a rest period that lasted a good part of the afternoon. Then we took off for the sunset cruise on a trimaran named "Octopus". This worked out very well, but you'll have to see today's photo slideshow to get the whole thing. I'll show the sunset here. We boarded by taking a little skiff named "Squid" to Octopus, and climbing the ladder to the main deck. Tom told us where to sit for best pictures; he's been doing this cruise for years. The cruise went south from the Holiday Inn Resort to see all the rest of the tall hotels, then back north past the RIU and still farther. Then we turned back toward our starting point as the sun began setting.

The crew timed it perfectly. As the sun set they headed for our starting point, which was right at hand. We got off into Squid and went ashore, getting our feet wet as we hopped off. The water was *so* warm.

The captain pointed this ship out to me and called it an Argentine destroyer. No way.

The photo was taken at max zoom (10x) so she really wasn't as close as the picture may appear.

I found out later this is a Holland class OVP Ocean Patrol ship of the Netherlands navy. Possibly patrolling to keep Venezualan refugees out.

Of the four such ships, I was able to locate three in other areas of the world. I was not able to locate HNLMS Friesland, which would be consistent with her patrolling for drug dealings and other nefarious things.

So, probably HNLMS Friesland.

Tuesday 2/26/19

We started slow but made up for it. We went "downtown" to the area where the cruise ships tie up and where all the high-priced shops are located. We finally found a parking place behind the Marketplace, as we did before. We looked in a few shops until the ladies found a jewelry shop with realistic prices. They each bought something and D bought a gift for Abbey. Then we walked across the street. Then through the up-scale mall to Main Street on the far side. We window-shopped a bit but were really looking for the tram.

There are two of these battery-powered things, one double-deck and one single-deck. They run a dog-bone pattern on a single track on Main Street with loop reversing on each end.

One can walk as fast as these guys. But it's cool, and in the shade, and you can look at things without walking.

Their batteries are recharged from solar cells, so the island is proud of their green effort.

We hopped off the tram and walked through the store area (Schlock-central) to a well-known local place called Lucy's - Retired Surfer Bar and Restaurant. Roofed, open-air place on a tourist fishing boat marina. A few crew were filleting fish.

Lucy's Tuesday specials are 1) beef tacos $1 each, 2) margaritas $3, 3) Corona beer $4. We each had a pair of beef tacos and a drink or two. The tacos were good, but the margarita I had was not particularly heavy in the alcohol department. D's BV cabernet was better.

Abbey & Tom had us sit at their usual table and sure enough, a couple they know came by to chat.

Then we returned to the apartment through the downtown traffic, and past the SuperFoods store. I'm starting to learn the streets and routes and I've progressed to the level where I could get lost.

The idea now is to rest until 1730 when we take off to do The Last Supper. We'll dine in style on us, then return to pack and prepare to return home tomorrow.

Later, we're off to dine. Pinchos is the name of the place, and (once more) Tom & Abbey have been coming here forever. They dined here the first night the place was open and are friends with the owner.

Somehow Abbey got the best table on the deck over the water with a clear view of where the sun would set. A great location.
