20241022 Tuesday At Sea, still.

0700 Woke up to an unpleasent situation - the toilet won't flush. Guest Services says it's a problem up and down our hallway and they're working it. This happens now and then when somebody puts an item into their toilet too big to be flushed.

Now the US Hurricane Center says Oscar the storm won't develop into much of anything. We don't know if that implies a change back to Bermuda or not. Later: No, on to Nassau.

By mid-morning the toilet issue was solved. O did some reading in the Crow's Nest, D in the cabin.

Scouted the Sea View Bar and small pool on Deck 9 right aft (picture at right).

MDR was closed for lunch so we did the Lido.

We got a quote from the Future Cruise Desk for the round-the-horn cruise in January for comparison with Azamara. VB class, w/HIA, $14,998 (350 OBC), VB, no HIA, 12,578. Don't know if we'll do either one, but we can't get a quote from Azamara while out here - they have a really twitchy web site.

Trivia with Beverly from Sint Maartin. Not bad, not good. She's entertaining to speak with. Their next cruise is OZ & NZ.

Back to the cabin, and later to the MDR for dinner. Show tonight not worth attending.'

Nope. We're at sea still. Matter of fact, we're slogging along in the residue of former storm Oscar, which has expired. Sea State 4, wind out of the NW at 30 mph, overcast, intermittent rain. Pool cover closed.

Not much happening on board since we were supposed to be in port. Ran into our Trivia buddy Beverly a couple of times as we both wandered around. We agreed to play again at 1600.

Trivia coming up. The theme was Orange. Even with Beverly's help (living on Sint Maarten) we only got 11 where the winners got 14. Still enjoyed it. After Trivia the sun came out, which raises hopes. Still bouncing around.

It's Orange Night tonight - everyone is supposed to wear something orange. O brought his custom orange shirt, which he'll do with black slacks. D has an orange dressy tee shirt (which just came back in the laundry) she'll use.

The dinner was a success. Many dishes were from Malaysia, a Dutch property for many years. For instance, O had Bami Goreng, a spicy noodle dish with shrimp and chicken and a peanut sauce.

We had an after-dinner sip in the Half Moon Bar, just outside the MDR. Then back to the cabin.

O up early, breakfast, Crow´s Nest reading. Back to cabin to do these notes.

While walking around he encountered the Zoo. Towels and other cloths were used by the crew to make animals and animal scenes. Sample to the right.

The weather is better today, some sun, blue water rather than gray, minimal rocking.

This is our last full day at sea. By evening we'll be in the Bahamas. Clocks were set back to Miami time last night. Our next three days are 1) Nassau, 2) Halfmonkey*, and 3) Fort Lauderdale and home.

At Nassau we will be one of only two ships in port - the other is an MSC ship. Halfmonkey, though, will have three ships in that money-sucking place; us, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Carnival Sunrise. That could put six or seven thousand people on a tiny sandbar with lots of booze.

We loafed and read until Trivia. Beverly joined us; we did well enough to please us but not to overcome the really good folks. Then we went back to the books until we got individual pizzas on Deck 10. There, we found out the ship has run out of several items of food including orange juice, and Lagunitas IPA beer (sob).

Then bed.

* Halfmonkey = Half Moon Key, owned by Carnival.
