Now we go into Nassau, our alternative to Bermuda. Humph. Then we'll have one day at HA's proprietary island called Half Moon Caye, which formerly was Little San Salvador. It's another cash cow for HA. O prefers to call it Halfmonkey. Then Saturday at Halfmonkey. And Sunday we disembark at Port Everglades.
At 0800 we tied up to a pier at Nassau. Temperature 79*, wind 7 mph from the east. White puffy clouds.
We took it easy for a while, knowing the vendor stands ashore wouldn't be open until later.
Around 1000 we spotted a huge MSC ship inbound so we went ashore to get ahead of its passengers. We did the vendors at the cruise terminal but forced our way through to the Straw Market. When we were last here (1987?) the place was filled with ladies threading straws to make straw hats. Now, there are all manner of plastic things, mostly made in China.
D found things for the boys & O found something he wanted, so the walk was a success. We returned to read and loaf.
We took part in the 1600 Trivia with Beverly. We got 8 where the highest ever scored on this quiz was 11. But my God, the questions. What animal breathes through its butt? How long does it take a sloth to digest its meal? If you are olid, what does that mean?
We took pictures of Nassau (above) as we turned and departed. Then back to the stateroom until dinner. "Dressy" tonight, but we're not all that hungry so we'll grab a salad in Lido.
20241026 Saturday at Halfmonkey (Little Salvador Island)
Last day aboard. Woke up to the view at right, where Carnival & subsidiaries are building a docking and pier arrangement so future cruisers need not take tenders ashore. A tender is at left in the picture. They also bring the staff to this uninhabited island from Eleuthera nearby on days when ships are here.
We're not going ashore to spend money and get sandy and sunburned. If the schedule holds, we'll be outta here at 1330 to make the run to Fort Lauderdale.
At 1330 we got underway across the channel between Little San Salvador and Eleuthera. We'll follow the east shore of Eleuthera until we reach its northern extremity. Then we turn west and run for Fort Lauderdale.
We'll arrive at some unGodly time like 0430 because a Coast Guard inspection of the ship is due. Eventually we'll go ashore.
At Trivia with Beverly we only got points but we were happy with that. We said goodbye at the end and wish her well.
We returned to the cabin. D went to mass, O packed. D returned and packed. We went up to the NY thing on Deck 10 and had a light dinner.
Returning to the cabin, we selected a time to get up and set the alarm. Then we read books until we fell asleep.

20241027 Sunday
Woke up in Fort Lauderdale. HA said they had s new, more efficient way of disembarking guests. FAIL. I detected no changes and it was as miserable as before. Picture at left is of Iman and Agus, our cabin stewards. They were good.
The bleeping miserable elevator set in the Palm Garage had one elevator working (of three). When we finally got through the line and up, we found our car. We threw the luggage into it and zipped out of Fort Lauderdale northbound. Traffic wasn't bad on I-95 so we stayed on it all the way to FL 9B, 202 and A1A to the condo.
There, we found only one fob would work the access gates (no improvement, two steps back) and the pool deck still not finished (why?).
O went off to the commissary for basic foods and returned. Then we both sort of fell apart.
End of diary. Thanks for coming along.
