Up early, thanks to the change to Mountain time, and out early with temps in the low 50's.

We went up US87 to Raton NM, to catch a view of Mount Capulin, a dormant cone volcano. It's really neat, a near-perfect cone. Just before and for a long ways after that, we saw antelope; there must have been a couple of hundred of them. A pheasant also took off from the side as we approached.

For several days, we've had strong winds, mostly out of the south. Today, a low north of us has caused us to have strong winds out of the southwest, and that's the direction we drove the rest of the day (down I-25).

The truck didn't like pulling the fifth-wheel into that wind at any sort of speed and showed that with high operating temperatures, despite the low 70's ambient. We got lousy mileage.

Maybe I was just looking for troubles where there were none, but I convinced myself that the thermostat could be only partly open by the indications it was giving. We arrived here early, so I went out and got it changed. It's a fairly simple system, thermostat-radiator-waterpump. The waterpump is nearly new. We'll see.

We ate after I returned, then drove around town (not too exciting, even though they call it "Coronado's Town"). We fueled up for tomorrow, bought a few things, and returned to the trailer.

We read our books until later in the evening, when I'm doing this set of notes.

It was a beautiful day, but I'll be really happy when these winds go away.
