We slept in and woke up underway in a lock en route Miltenberg.

Up for breakfast with the Jacksons, who weren't far ahead of us. We're in the Main (pronounced Mine), which is more of a canal here than a river. Hills on one side have vineyards going up the steep slope, so there are terraces perhaps 10 feet wide holding the vines. It must be a real chore to harvest this sort of field.

We came to a lock and watched the entire cycle, taking pictures as we went. Just around the next bend was Miltenberg, a small town with no tour busses and only us ship people plus the natives in town.

A glass-blowing demo starts soon in the lounge, so we're off to that. More later....

The glass-blowing demo was a success. Dolores bought a couple of small items that they then boxed for her. Very nice show.

Then off on the walking tour of Miltenberg. David hiked us up the Hauptstrasse to the church and main plaza (Christmas Markt location). We looked around and bought some stuff for Christmas. I looked for lieblich, but that which I found didn't look very good (low price). David turned us loose just as the town band started playing in the square. They did carols, both German and American, and sounded quite nice. The whole audience applauded their efforts.

The streets were packed with Germans, their kids, their dogs, and so forth. David had pointed out the Inn zum Reisen, the oldest inn in Germany (1570), so we went there for beer and white wine. We were seated in the loft over the smoky bar. The house is owned by Faust beer, so we took that.

A double-table near us had ten young men drinking lots of beer. Finally, they got some short drink each, which resembled Jagermeister, and drank it to their singing of "Ein prosit, ein prosit.....gemucklicheit." That was the first time I'd ever heard the song performed for real by the drinkers.

We shopped our way down the Hauptstrasse and got a few little things, including kindereggs (plastic egg containing a toy, covered with chocolate). We arrived back at the ship in time for the lecture on tomorrow's happenings. Basically, we bus to Rothenburg ob der Tauber with our hand luggage with the bottom of the busses carrying our large luggage. After Rothenburg ob der Tauber, we bus to Schweinfurt to board the River Discovery, our original intended ship. Thus, we swap with the River Discovery's passengers. It could be worse - the River Navigator's passengers are stuck in hotels because their ship can't get through the dangerous part of the Main to continue their journey downriver.

So, we packed up tonight to put luggage in the halls at 0730. Up at 6:30 for breakfast, put our nightclothes in the luggage and luggage in the hall and go to breakfast.
