This is going to be difficult.

I'm trying to make a web site using only a text file and photos from 1999 and a sometimes-suspect memory.

The box below contains the text file, made up about January of 1999 as an outline of the trip. At least we have the chronology. This link takes you to the Photos. The travelers were Dolores & Owen. Note at the bottom of the schedule the price of the airfare.

Seeing the date notes above stir a few memories.

17 March - I recall landing at Glasgow, getting the Hertz car, and immediately getting onto a high-speed Motorway down through Scotland to the B&B we'd arranged. That's one way of learning how to drive on the left side.

We ate at the Craig Manor Hotel's restaurant named Paisley's. We were introduced to the British way - order your drink, then sit in the lounge with it and other diners until your meal is ready, then you're taken to table. Very civilized.

18 March - I recall driving to Barrow-in-Furness to see the UK submarine shipyard. Also the ruins of an 12th century monastery *Furness Abbey" in the Vale of the Deadly Nightshade. We went to Grange-over-Sands (the Brits call this Gods Waiting Room) to see the huge sand flats. Then home. We ate in a country inn recommended by a friend on the way.

19 March - I remember a tour around the lake that included sheep and Wordsworth's grave. Did a little shopping. 'then we ate at Paisley's again. The barman asked as we entered, "Your usual, Mr Carlson?". Great memory. Good service, good food.

20 March - we drove back north to the Glasgow airport. We flew to Keflavik and took the bus to town. We checked into the Hotel Essa. We hiked up the hill to Kringlan (the local mall). We did some shopping not really looking for anything. But two wood-frame cloth sling-type beach chairs caught our eye. They were inexpensive so we bought them and hauled them back down the hill.

21 March - we cant actually remember this occasion but we always took the tour in the afternoon to the Blue Lagoon hot-spring pond then the airport. Once I remember being very warm in the water while snowflakes fell in my hair. Then on to the airport for a beer (Viking) and the flight home.

That's about all I can pull out of memory. It will have to do.
