We spent several days in the Holland area, visiting friends and family.

We then left the Holland area, totally on our own after months of planning.  We wandered south and west, avoiding Chicago by detouring to the south before going west.

We think some of the worst roads we encountered on the entire trip were the US Highways we used to cross Illinois.
