We unhooked all the various utilities, picked up the legs, and departed Crown Villa RV Park. This is the first day of the second month of our trip.
The day was pretty simple - north on US-97 to the Columbia River and beyond that to Toppenish, WA. Then a few miles of WA-22 to I-82. Then I-82 north to I-90 and almost immediately an exit into E&J Resort at Ellensburg.
The day was spent going up and down. Down from Bend to Redmond, up onto the plateau on the south side of the Columbia, then down into the Columbia riverbed and up the Washington side to another plateau. Then down into the Yakima Valley, up and over a small set of hills into Ellensburg. Easy drive, not much traffic.
We left the truck and trailer connected and only hooked up the water, power, and cable. We wandered next door to a Flying J truck stop (not loud in our rig, but it sure is when you're walking through it). There were a gaggle of Army folks with their 8-wheeled personnel carriers in the lot taking a break.
We looked around the store, but didn't find anything we needed, so we returned to the trailer. After a bit, I noticed the Army guys going southeast on I-90. I wish them well.
We had an early dinner or late lunch, whichever one calls it. Then we read for a while. A little rainstorm came along, not nearly enough to wash all that Oregon pine pollen off the truck. I guess I'll have to wash it.
The sun is setting now at 8:40pm. It's staying bright later. We're seeing the effects of higher latitude. One marker we saw today pointed out the 45-degrees North latitude, halfway between the equator and the pole. The Arctic Circle is at 66*33', about 1293 miles north of that line.
We have three bottles of wine left in the little house. We must drink a bottle of wine tonight or pay duty on it tomorrow when we enter Canada. We've selected the 2003 Beringer Pinot Grigio for consumption and we'll now get to that.
Tomorrow we enter Canada. We'll stow our money and get some loonies and twonies and re-learn Canadian, eh?
