We got up late but got onto the road quickly. On the way, the truck's odometer turned over 200,000 miles. Not long later, we arrived at Coachman's Terrace in Lake Geneva. We checked in and got set up for two nights here. Then we called cousin Lynn. She proposed that we come out to her place.
We went to their nice, nice, condo at Geneva National just west of the city. We chatted with Lynn (Gene was at work) for a while, then we drove with Lynn to the arboretum at Delavan. Her mom's ashes are inurned there under a crabapple tree. It's a nice peaceful location.
We drove back to the condo. Gene had arrived. We chatted some more. Then they drove us downtown where we walked over to the Geneva Cruise Lines terminal and boarded a cruise boat. It departed on a one-hour cruise around half of Lake Geneva. The operator pointed out all the old homes of the rich and gave us stories about the homes and times of the heyday of the Lake (1880-1930). The Wrigleys, the Swifts, and other well-known Chicago industrialists owned summer homes here. The railroad connection to Chicago was the key to their coming here; they could get here quickly for a weekend.
Then we returned to the condo. We chatted while Lynn fixed dinner, which we ate on the screened part of their deck overlooking the golf course (brats, tomato cucumber salad, corn-on-the-cob, potato salad). Dinner was great.
We chatted some more until we remembered to give Lynn some time to herself before she works tomorrow. We came back to the little house and settled in.
Tomorrow, we'll run around Lake Geneva, then take Gene & Lynn to dinner.
