275 miles to Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina in Pell City, AL
Hot.
It was warm enough to turn on the A/C soon after we left the park at 8:50am. Not too humid, but just plain hot.
We decided we'd come down US-231 (which ends in Panama City) until close to home, when we'd diverge onto local roads. US-231 leads through Murfreesboro, TN, which should be avoided. It also runs directly through Huntsville, AL, on a parkway-sort-of-thing that isn't bad. Otherwise, it runs through a few hilly ranges and some really nice valleys.
We got here about 3pm. The thermomometer read 100* inside & 108* outside. We leveled the trailer in a nice sight with a great view and turned on the A/C. Then we went out to eat, knowing it would take a while to cool the trailer.
We went to Cafe Avanti in Pell City and had a great dinner. We had appetizers and entree with three glasses of wine for $50. Everything was good. To get there, leave I-20 at Exit 162, then go two miles west (toward Pell City) on US-78.
At Cafe Avanti, the TV weatherperson announced they'd broken a temperature record - eight straight days at/over 100*F in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston. At the time (4pm), Birmingham had 102*, Tuscaloosa 104*, and Anniston 102*.
Then we filled the truck with diesel to be ready for morning, and settled in back at the little house, where the temp inside was 90* and outside was 104*.
Home tomorrow. We'll unpack the trailer after dark, under the lights.
