9/20/16 Tuesday A few photos

We got up at the ungodly hour of 0330, hauled our suitcases to the Hertz roller-skate we picked up yesterday, and went to the airport.

The old American MD80 took us quietly to DFW where we switched to a modern A321 which noisily took us to SEA arriving around 1300. Fran was there to pick us up and take us to the condo (Waterfront Landings). She set us up in the guest suite (small but very comfortable). We sat in their place for a while until going out to dinner at Anthony's Pier 66 (nice & expensive). We received the first lesson on cat-care and then went to bed early after the longish day and very short previous night.

We set off down the waterfront, which is all torn up by construction work, to the Bremerton/Bainbridge ferry terminal. Our fare was $4.10 for the one-hour trip (return is free). Beautiful weather and views of the mountains. We walked to the Bremerton Bar & Grill to meet Ken & Sylvia Hicks for lunch. They're in town for a USS Halibut reunion. Lunch was good, then we stopped for a bit in the hospitality suite for some submariner talk. We caught the 1500 ferry back and rested until 1700 when we went to Fran & Duane's place for her pork roast dinner. Afterward we sat around and chatted, and drank a mess of wine.

9/22/16 Thursday A few photos

This was Fran & Duane's busy day getting ready to go on their cruise. So we did some walking and finding. We found a convenient church for Dolores, and then caught the "D" Rapid bus to 15th and Market in the Ballard neighborhood where daughter Susan and husband Bryant live. She met us at the bus stop and showed us to their apartment in a new building. We checked in with her cats and chatted. We then hiked over a few miles of Ballard while Susan pointed out nice things in the 'hood. We stopped for lunch at Hi-Life in a 1911 Fire Station building that was very good - we'll go back there again. We returned to her place and bought stuff in the in-house drug store then she showed us the apartment building amenities - it's very nice.

It was time then to go back to F&D's place, where we received final cat instruction and papers saying we can use the condo and the car. They drove to the airport to get boarding passes for tomorrow, then to a close-by Fairfield Inn to stow their suitcases (five). They'll get up early and take the hotel shuttle to the airport. The next stop was 13 Coins, a unique 24-hour restaurant for dinner. Toward the end of the meal they said they were going to have more wine and would get back to the hotel on the shuttle, so we left and drove back downtown to the condo.

Now it's ours to use, and take care of, including cats. We soon found the internet access here is very slow compared with ours at home (six mbps compared with our seventy).

9/23/16 Friday

Up at a decent west-coast hour. We found two cats sitting in the hallway waiting for breakfast. We put down the food, they ate, they disappeared. We suppose they are napping someplace. I walked up to Target to get a new computer mouse because mine had died. On return we did some computer chores and watched the news. The day is cloudy and threatening rain, so it feels good to stay in, but we're also eager to do things.

So we finally left and walked around the Pike Place Market. Lots of tourists. Big crowd. We spotted a hole-in-the-wall restaurant and had lunch. More walking which stopped at Target, where we got diet soda. Then back down the hill to the condo. Now I'm not as eager to do things.

The evening news (all evening) showed the "active shooter" in a mall 60 miles north of here. Shooter at large.

9/24/16 Saturday

Got up and found two cats patiently (?) waiting near their food place. Fed them and they disappeared again.

Morning news shows five dead from the shooter, who is still at large. Huge police search & investigation going on.

Go now to Week 1 to go on.
