We joined Susan and Bryant at 8:30 and checked out the cats - they're well but aging and starting to show it. Then we went to Señor Moose for breakfast Mexican style. Excellent. Big.
We decided, since the weather was lovely sunny bright with mountains visible all around, that we'd take a long ride and see things. We drove north up I-5 & WA-526 to the ferry at Mukiteo and crossed on it to Clinton on Whidbey Island. We visited and walked through the little artsy town of Langley then went on to stop at a farm/retail/lunch spot (Greenback farm).
There, we had a starter and pie. They're famous for pies of all kinds - I had Marionberry. There's wine tasting to do, and I bought a bottle of their Pinot Noir, then a piece of Swiss to go with it. We strolled the grounds and enjoyed the clear, cool day.
Onward then up 525 & 20 through Oak Harbor, home of Naval Air Station Whidbey. Oak Harbor is the commercial and legal center of the Island county, so it's a big mess of stores and fast-food outlets. Necessary but not beautiful.
We turned off at Deception Pass State Park to view the mountains and water. There's a tall bridge over the pass, subject to high cross-winds at times (big warning sign). We went slowly so we could see the tide swirling the water as it raced through from one side to the other.
We stopped at an ice cream and seafood place so Bryant could get his favorite. I noted the place sells lutefisk and lefse and herring and all the associated Scandinavian things. I bought some Swedish gummy raspberries.
Noting that dusk comes early here, we headed back home down I-5 in holiday traffic. We went to the Fred Meyer store to get goodies for breakfast, then returned to our houses. We split up so S & B could prepare for the workday tomorrow. Then we just did computer things & games until bedtime.
