It's time we do something in the heart of the old Roman Empire. With that in mind, we'll prowl Italy for a week before joining Azamara Journey for a cruise around Italy. The cruise pictorial is to the right.

Flights will be (1235) JAX-DL5624-BOS-DL112-FCO (0805)

We've arranged with hotel Augusta Lucilla Palace that a driver will meet us at Fumicino airport to drive us directly to the hotel. We intend to leave our bags there while we do the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus to get the lay of the place.

That's the plan. Now here's what happened.

There've been days like this, but not too many. We boarded in JAX after TSA found a discrepancy between D's passport and the Delta information. We returned to the desk, where they found Delta had her birthdate wrong - the same as O's. Fixed that, thru TSA to the SkyClub for a short period.

Then to the gate, boarded, took our seats, and enjoyed much of the trip to Boston. Kinda bumpy out of JAX due to summer showers at takeoff but no big deal.

At BOS we left our Embraer 175 to take the hike all the way across the terminal from the A gates to the E gates. We hiked underground to the main part of the A terminal, then onto the SkyBridge to the Hilton in mid-airport which continues to the E terminal. Mucho hiking.

We enjoyed the Air France lounge (picture at left) for a short while, then joined the queue in boarding. D is afraid of going down escalators, so I took her little bag and mine and started down the escalator. I lost my balance half-way down, and fell backward into a sitting position on the sharp edges of the escalator steps. Ouch.

But I jumped up and resumed pulling both bags. We got into the airplane where D told me the damage was evident as a row of tiny punctures so I used the lavatory to change trousers. After that, all was well as we leaped into the air and headed for Rome.

We had our wine & dinner, both quite adequate. D curled up watching TV re-runs. I pulled out the coverlet and tried to get a couple of hours sleep. The seat cushion was too hard for good sleep.
