Thursday

Start: Holland, MI
End: FAMCAMP, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
Miles: 310

Temps: High/Low - missed taking the readings. Comfortable but cool, mostly cloudy.

We got up early for us, said our good-byes, and were on the road at 9:00am.

The trip was nice and uneventful, through Allegan to US-131 to I-94E to I-69S to I-469E and then US-30 to Van Wirt, OH. There, we got onto US-127 and went south, paralleling I-95 but taking it much easier.

The gate on the east side of the base was open, so we zipped straight in to the campground. We got set up and called Susan. We were invited to salmon dinner at their place.

They have this insance 4-month-old cat. It races all over and gets into everything. But it's cute. It has toys and plays with them as long as anyone will move them so she can attack them.

Susan & Wyatt did their famous dishwasher salmon, and it was very good. It's prepared by putting into foil a 6-oz piece of salmon, some butter, lemon, and salt. Then all the foil pieces are placed in the upper basket of the dishwasher. The dishwasher is put on in its normal cycle (no pots/pans, no extra drying) which takes about an hour and a quarter. It came out just right and was delicious with asparagus and rolls; cheesecake for dessert. Pinot Grigio for those who wanted it.

We ate & chatted & played with the cat.

We were going to make it an early evening, so we left early. We stopped at a sale D knew about at Jo-Anne's Fabrics to get things for her craft efforts. Then we went to the trailer and settled in.

Start: FAMCAMP, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
End: FAMCAMP, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
Miles: 0

Temps: High 85.5, Low 52.3 over the past two days. The high is false; we're parked on an asphalt slab that re-radiates heat.

We got up late this morning, ate a nice breakfast of bacon and pancakes and fruit, then went to church at the base chapel closest to us. The mass went a little long, with a baptism, but was nice. Then we scurried across the street to the commissary to get items we needed and returned to put them away. Then out to Susan & Wyatt's place.

They were agreeable to the idea that we just sit around and chat and play with the cat. So that's what we did (plus watching the Olympics on TV) until dinnertime, when we went out to Los Mariachi's. The enchiladas were great. The cat is crazy.

After dinner, we continued our taking it easy, adding only reading the newspaper. We left around 9:00pm so Susan could get ready for work tomorrow.

Back to the trailer, do the computer, watch Olympics.

Monday

Start: FAMCAMP, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
End: FAMCAMP, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH
Miles: 0

Temps: High 86.4, Low 54. The high is false; we're parked on an asphalt slab that re-radiates heat upward to the sensor.

We started our laundry chores at a reasonable time. We also got on-line to check the credit card balance and to pay it, and to check the bank account balances. We finished just after noon and headed for Wyatt & Susan's house. We also printed a couple of pictures of the cat for them, which they liked.

The cat is still goofy. We played with it for a while. Then we went to Waynesville (an antiques town south of their house). Waynesville, it turns out, was mostly closed this Monday, but we still managed to find a few things to purchase. Dolores bought bikinis for the goose(s) to use in Florida.

We left there and took a small ride. During the ride we stumbled into the Visitor's Center for Ceasar Creek Lake, a US Army Corp of Engineers facility. We toured the center and took a ride around the lake. We might stay in their campground for a night next trip - it has fewer facilities and is more expensive than the base campground, but it might be nice to try for a change.

Then we headed for Xenia and then to Fairfield Road and B.R.Scotese's restaurant (the place the Parkinsons hosted the pre-wedding dinner). The food was very good and we enjoyed it, including some sinful desserts.

We went back to the house, chatted and catted for a while, and then left so both generations could prep for tomorrow.

Back to the trailer, and preparing.

A nice day and a good visit.
