We got out of the campground before nine and cleared Reno by ten. Then we headed up US395 again. After leaving the barren surroundings of Reno, we wound up in a greener (at least it had some grass) broad valley.
We left 395 to get to Susanville, then took CA-139 north over a couple of long hills. Finally, it settled into a nice valley to cruise along in. We reached Adin, then up over another pass and into another valley.

As we approached Tulelake CA, the fields began to be irrigated and things really grow here with water. As we approached the Klamath Falls airport, we stopped to call the Air National Guard base at the airport. The Military Travel Guide said they have a small campground. Sure enough, we got directions to it and showed up there ten minutes later.

The security guys on the gate seemed just happier than anything to see us. They told us where everything is (BX, Club (closed tonight), Gym (w/showers), Security (right in front of the trailer)), and took our $10 for the night.

We set up the trailer without unhooking the truck, hooked up water & electric, and took a hike to the BX. There, we bought a book and a couple bottles of wine. The guy who runs the BX says they will nearly double the active duty component here when they pick up the F-15 squadron from Tyndall AFB (Panama City)!! They'll also pick up a few other F-15 transfers in. Seems as though the future's looking good for this place.

We came back, then hiked in to look over the gym and showers (nice) and exercise machines. This little place is small but good.

We hopped into the trailer, cooked dinner, and ate. After dinner, we took it easy for a while until I started doing this. We didn't even set out the TV. Instead, we turned on the radio and listened around until we came across KRAT (the RAT, the local oldies station). Now, we've heard oldies stations, but this is the best we've come across in a long time.

Many of songs reminded me of when I was stationed aboard USS Sarda in New London. Those of us standing topside security watches at night would always have a transistor radio tuned to WINS, New York. Wow. We had it on all evening and heard many songs we hadn't heard in decades. Love that RAT.

The weather's going to be cool tonight and tomorrow. We'll get up at a reasonable hour and run into Bend (not all that far away now).

We'll have to remember this place in case we come this way again. Kingsley Field ANG Base at Klamath Falls airport.
