20120811 Redwood City CA to home

Up at 7, then to SJC to return the current rental car to avoid a penalty, rented another one and sped to SFO. We turned in the second car and took the Airtrain to the terminal.

We checked in with Delta, no problems. We waited a long time to get fondled by TSA but finally got through it.

Then we had a nice breakfast at Perry’s in the concourse near our gate (40) and returned to the gate to wait for the flight to board. The inbound flight has arrived and the passengers disembarked. So now we wait for DL 2190 to be called.

Well, we took off from SFO about 45 minutes late and arrived at the gate about six minutes behind schedule, thanks to some providential tail winds. This flight was a little better than the one going to SEA, insofar as service was concerned. The “lunch” was a hamburger and potato salad; the burger wasn’t bad but the potato looked suspicious, so I passed on it. There was a brownie, which I gave to Dolores. I should charge Delta for about 15 minutes of my time; I had to repair my seat table (loose screw), and show Dolores how to repair hers (same problem).

Now we have a long wait at ATL. The connections to ECP (Panama City) were such that you could have a really tight change or allow lots of time. Figuring that Delta is often late at ATL late in the day, we chose the lots-of-time option. That must be the reason they were on time.

Later. We got out of ATL on time and would have been on time arriving except the pilot-controlled landing lights wouldn’t come on. First time for that one. We wandered around the sky taking a tour of PCB and Panama City and the woods. Then the lights started working and we landed.

Our driver says it has been two weeks of rain, lots of rain, heavy rain, sometimes eight hours a day. There’s still a threat of flooding near streams inland. So we left the rain behind and received the glorious weather in the west.

That’s all, folks. Thanks for taking the trip with us.
