Tourist Information for Vienne
Today, we’re supposed to depart from Lyon in the morning for Vienne, arriving after lunch. Then there’s a walking tour of Vienne.
Actual:
We bused today to Pérouges, a restored medieval town on a hill. It once was pretty much abandoned, but some forward-thinker started fixing up places and the country funded underground utilities. Not all the buildings have been restored, but a good many have. We walked around and took pictures, especially of the old church.
Later, we had lunch in one of the little restaurants, complete with a small house chien (dog) running around. My salad was good but I don’t know what that thing called “Andouilette” was. It was shaped like a large sausage but crumbled under a fork and was very salty. Glenn & I each had it and left almost all of it..
Then we went off to a huge warehouse in which Georges Debouf, a Beaujolais importer to the USA and other places, publicizes his stuff. It was a little museum, a little school, a little entertainment, and wine tasting all wrapped up in a huge bow. One learns all the parts of wine-making from vines to barrels to bottles and then tastes a few wines.
Exit is obviously through the gift shop. Instead, I went outside and shot pictures of an old train on display so I can use it in the thing I’m doing for our museum next March.
We bused our way back to the ship for the last time. Tomorrow morning we will leave it where we found it and be bused to Avignon for day trips out of a hotel there. Not all of the tour could get into one hotel, so our “Green” group will be in another hotel down the street. We’ll say more when we know more.
