We landed at ______ in Madrid, tired and jet-lagged. Off the plane, through immigration and customs, to the taxi. Taxi to the hotel, where we dropped the luggage while waiting for a room to be available to us.
We've booked our four days at the Petit Palace Plaza Mayor (R), about half-way between Plaza del Sol and the cathedral. It's a boutique 4-star place that belies its looks. It's one of a minor chain (perhaps 15 scattered through Europe).
The hotel is well located. There's a small grocery at street level, and a souvenir store next door. The Mercado San Miguel is across the street to the right, and the entrance to the famous old Plaza Mayor is across the street to the left.
The Google-image below shows the tourist part of the city, from the Puerta del Sol (under the Madrid word in red), to the Plaza Mayor, to the Cathedral and the Palace.

… and then we'll check out to take the train to Malaga. It doesn't make any sense to fly when trains are fast and frequent and not too expensive (˜$100 for 2). The fast trains are known as "ducks" due to the shape of the engine.
