Wednesday, 7 April 2010. Nice in the morning; cold front came through in the afternoon with lightning and rain.

I noticed apparent differential fluid leaking out of the left axle end onto the rim and tire last evening. So I took the truck up to Bubba's (really) and asked about the level of the fluid. He got under and used almost all of a quart of my replacement fluid to get it up to the normal mark. Not good.

I drove off and thought about limping it home this way. Stopped at the NAPA store to get more differential fluid. Asked if they stocked the axle seals, and found they do. I asked who would do replacement for me and was told Bubba was good and not very expensive.

Back to Bubba's. He had work for the rest of the day, but we agreed I'd be there at 8:00 am tomorrow for him to look at it and repair what's needed.

I went back to the RV Resort and told them we needed to extend a day, which they handled. I called ahead to the next campground and delayed our reservation there by a day. We'll get home now on Saturday, vice the originally-planned Thursday.

Then we went back out the road by which we entered Onalaska the first time so Dolores could take pictures of the flowers there she'd seen earlier. Then back into town. She wanted to pick up a roasted chicken for dinner; the store in Onalaska had just put them into the machine and told us it would be 40 minutes.

We took off to go 20 minutes east and then return, in order to get the chicken. Fifteen minutes east, we came to a big shopping area and decided someone there would have a chicken – so we went on a small ride around town. We found a small book store that was closed. We found a courthouse project that looked like they were trying to save the old buildings around it. We found an old logging railroad engine on exhibit. We returned to the food store here and got all our stuff, but they had no chicken – they, too, had just started another cycle.

So we drove back to the Onalaska store to get the chicken. No chicken. They'd just started another cooking cycle of chickens, so it would be 30 minutes. So, we took the stuff we'd bought east of here back to the trailer (some of it was frozen) and put it away. Then we returned to the store and bought the long-sought-after chicken.

Then back to the trailer again, now to organize the dinner and eat. Good chicken.

Then the rains came, so we just read and did computer things and watched the rain. After a while, a leak developed over the window at the table, so we plugged it as best we could from inside. I'll look at the window tomorrow while Bubba's working on the truck – but I'll have to borrow a ladder from someone.

Just one dern thing after another.... Walter Brennan
