Cold. -3*C. Ice forming on the river next to the ship, with birds standing on the ice.
Breakfast with a couple (the Jones') from Ft Worth TX. Their house is on top of a natural-gas dome; they're currently negotiating rights to it with some company. They hope to get a dinner out of it now and then.
They grew up in Oklahoma, near Lawton, somewhat east of Altus where D's relatives live but they know that country.
Now we're to have a tour of the town, return for lunch, then we can option to return to town for the afternoon. Hmmmm.....
More later....
We bussed into the old town, then hiked across the river past the Rathaus in the center of the river to the Dom (Cathedral). Very old, interesting.
We saw the outside of the Residenz, then the gardens (nothing blooming but a great view of the town and St Michael's church (former monastary)).
Visited a lace shop and bought a bunch of it for the house and gifts, including some napkin-and-flatwear holders.
Back to the boat.
It was dress-up night for the Captain's cocktail party and Captain's dinner. We had a picture taken of the four of us near the Christmas tree in the lounge for posterity. Joan & Christine were chosen companions from our Orange group to be at table with the Captain - they were having a ball.
The dining staff did the parade with the baked Alaska (excellent!!).
Entertainment in the lounge by the Gunzenheimer Swing Band - the trio were of 238 years total age and had played for years at the Army O-club here. Music teacher, carpenter, and one other occupation. Quite good, really. Dolores & Owen even got out and danced (slow ones). Glenn & Lou had a ball doing swing stuff - they're better than we are.
Finally, off to bed. Nurnberg tomorrow.
