Wednesday, 31 March 2010 Fine day, sunny, breezy. Over 80*.

Slept in after yesterday's hassle. Talked with the office and extended our stay an extra day, which cost nothing, since it's a seventh-day-free promotion here. Took a tour of the RV park, finding the pools and library.

We decided to look around New Braufels today. Went downtown, around lots of blocks, found a German restaurant or two. Found the local RR museum in the old depot. Found “Schlitterbahn”, a huge complex of water-park, amusement park, Christmas store, Bier Garten, and more.

We did the Christmas store, with D picking up several items for later. I took pictures of the old house it's in – the Moeller house. He built by himself, starting in 1857 and finishing in 1866. He died three weeks after the family moved into it. The widow stayed on in it until 1881.

He squared locally quarried stones and hewed 18-foot cedar beams. It's a very solid house. It was used for various things, including a Bavarian restaurant, and was abandoned for a time until Schlitterbahn took it for the Christmas house.

We went from there to the former town of Gruene, TX, now a district in New Braunfels. It says it's a small town between Austin and San Antonio, gently resisting the change of time. Lots of antique stores, one very Texan store, one good restaurant (the Gristmill), and others.

We prowled the place, bought some consumables for us and some for others, and had an early dinner. I had a Lone Star beer, which still tastes like it needs a few more passes through the horse. Dinner was good. Every place has been very accommodating to D's dietary needs.

We went to the store and bought food, D a hat, and me a shirt (I probably will never get yesterday's shirt clean).

Truck's doing fine today.
