20050730 Valemount BC 53/77 Mostly cloudy, cool.
Up and out of the KOA in Burns Lake and off to the east on Transcanada 16, the Yellowhead Highway.
There's not much about this route that is spectacular, but it's a nice ride through tall trees, lakes, and bogs. Moose warning signs all over the place, but we only saw moose twice - once coming into Prince George when we saw a dead moose at roadside and leaving Prince George looking down a set of power lines we saw a herd of five or six. Once, we saw a moose cross the road far ahead of us in front of another car, which stopped to let the moose cross, of course. No bears today.
We had to quickly get accustomed to traffic - this is the main route east-west for northern BC. The two-lane road isn't quite an I-81, but it is busy.
We refueled in Prince George after seeing the sign that there were no more services for the next 202 Km.
Finally, we got to Irvin's CG at Valemount, just off 16 down route 5. We refueled in Valemount for tomorrow.
The campground lady gave us recommendations for a great restaurant when Dolores told her I said she'd have to cook if there wasn't a great restaurant in town. When it opened, we went over there and had a fine meal, small steaks and shrimp with a South African Shiraz. Very, very nice.
She had also recommended a Swiss bakery in town. We got there in time to get the last loaf of bread in the place - a seven-grain. Feels and smells great.
We drove around town and looked it over.
If we're in the area, we won't hestitate a second - we'll come over here.
We'll do church in the morning here, then off for Edmonton, Alberta.
