The weather is turning from bearable to something less. Or perhaps we've had enough of it for the now. This morning we had a few blue patches in the clouds but they've gone away leaving mist and wind.

We met at nine whereupon Susan drove to a shopping building that contains among other things a place called "The Egg & Us". We all got into the coffee then ordered. I had Swedish pancakes, two eggs and sausage, which is nearly a day's requirement for me. The Egg is clean and the food is good, so it was well patronized.

Then "the ride" was begun. We went north on I-5 to a point just beyond Everett. There we swung onto local roads. We visited to places where they wanted to do something in their "Ingress" game (look elsewhere for details on that). We saw dozens of Snow (white) Geese in the fields as we continued to La Conner, a village that resembles a transplanted artsy Michigan village called Saugatuck.

La Conner has all the attractions for weekend visitors imaginable, and a few singular ones. Our first stop was the "Northwest Quilt and Fiber Museum" located in a beautiful 1890's house. Dolores & Susan looked at and remarked on many of the hangings while Bryant & I wandered around admiring the building. The ladies were impressed and so was I.

The car was doing well where it was, so we left it there as we walked downhill to the main street. Many of the buildings are on the National Register. We window-shopped and admired some of the goods available. At one point the village has provided a large slab of fir oriented vertically so one can see the growth rings well. The rings are marked where in time various events happened. It's quite impressive. When we decided to turn back we went to the water & looked at the boardwalk and boats. Then we entered Nell Thorn's bar & cafe.

Nell's is a modern food emporium on the water and boardwalk. It's nicely furnished. The dishes are varied but slanted toward seafood. But Bryant had a small steak he pronounced to be very satisfactory. I settled for vegetable barley soup and split the bread with D. All in all, very nice.

We headed for the car but stopped at a park named for a local dog - Dirty Biter Park. Please look in the photos for the plaque giving the background.

Onward we strode, now uphill to the car. We piled in gratefully getting out of the wind. Susan then drove us back to their house as the rest of us took short naps. The rough I-5 pavement prevented long naps.

At their house we took stock of the circumstances and decided we'd end our visit with S&B. We said our thank-you's and our good-bye's and walked three doors west to 806d. There, we'll get warm and pack and otherwise get ready for an early departure tomorrow.
