Sunday

We checked in on-line yesterday for our flight to San Diego. It was scheduled to leave at 0750 and arrive at 1048. With that departure time, we rose at 0500 to get to the airport. But it was Sunday morning, so we had little traffic with which to contend and we arrived in plenty of time for the flight.

After checkin we walked to Gate A12, which seems to be half-way to Tacoma. That's a long walk. The plane came in from somewhere. They got off, we got on. We pushed back on time and arrived on time. Hard to beat that.

Breakfast was offered consisting of fruit, yoghurt and a small omelet. Quite good for airplane food.

The baggage claim signs clearly spell out that Delta uses carousels 1-3. After a spell of not seeing our bags, D went looking and found them all by themselves on carousel 4. Humph. We dragged them to the rental car shuttle bus and finally to a Hertz car.

Since we were not expected at the Jackson's house, we took a tour of the Point Loma area where we worked and lived 1969 to 1971. We tried to get to the Cabrillo Monument but that was closed due to the government shut-down. We retreated and went to the waterfront area, noting on the way that our old Barracks area buildings still exist despite their WW2 age.

We stopped to look at the apartment in which we first lived together (above) at 4811 Bermuda Avenue. It's still there and looks much like it did. That was a great little one-bedroom place. We could open the bedrooms window and listen to the surf crashing on the shore as we went to sleep.

We went onto the base and to the end of the base where the Navy Exchange is located. We took pictures for Jamie's project with some historic plaques there. We entered the exchange to buy wine to bring to the Jacksons. We left the base but stopped at the old NTC gas station branch of the exchange where D found some tee-shirts to bring home. Then we headed out I-8 and CA-67 to the Jackson home.

We were welcomed after which we sat around the kitchen table. Wines were brought out. We gave them the chocolates Susan had picked out in Seattle. We chatted and talked for a long time, during which Glenn prepared a beef roast and ML got potatoes ready to cook.

While we chatted, the Patriots beat our Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC championship. Rats.

The Jackson's granddaughter Emmy was there doing laundry chores and cleaning her car, so she joined the chat. Grandson Jake showed up and was persuaded to stay for food. Emmy took off, then Glenn & ML cooked and we ate the excellent dinner. Then Jake took off to see his girl friend.

We continued to chat and discuss world subjects until 2300 when we just all faded and went to bed. A great day with the Jacksons.
