20120625 Monday Rain, Mist, Rain, Wind
Poor weather today kept us from doing anything outside. We did our breakfast (abbreviated since we had misunderstood weekday closing time) and went to Kopparberg and the Turistbyra.
We talked again with Ken Karlsson and his wife about several subjects. When we noted the gold-panning tournament coming up, he said he is the vice-president of the International association of gold-panners. So we talked about our watching a tournament in Dawson, Yukon, and he said he was last there in 2007. So we compared notes on gold-panning, Dawson, and so forth. He wears a 1/3oz nugget on a chain around his neck that he panned from the Bonanza Creek outside Dawson.
We asked about moose; he said there are moose all over the place and that if we wanted to go out at the right time he could point the way to a moose - guaranteed. Otherwise, they stay away from the big roads and places people walk.
We talked about agriculture and how there are many barns here, but no cows. He says it’s just like the states - you have to have lots of capital and lots of cows to compete with the big guys. We told him our story of there being at one time 26 farms between two towns in Wisconsin - now, none of them farm seriously.
We picked up some Kopparberg stuff to take home. He was happy to sell it, since his order for this year should come in soon. He found a tourist brochure in English on the Bergslagen and gave it to us.
We thanked them for all their help while here and left to tour and take pictures. We went north and got a picture of a barn with grass growing from its roof. We got a few more pictures and turned around to LIndesberg.
There, we loafed in the room for a bit. Still raining and now blowing.
Later we got out again, looking for more goodies to bring home. Found some, and bought them. Then we went to Palmas Restaurant again for wine and dinner. I had beef tips kebab and D had a bacon-wrapped pork roast. Good place, even if they don’t speak great English. The young lady part-timer came in, so we chatted with her for a while.
Back then to the hotel to begin packing to leave tomorrow for Stockholm. We’ve had a good stay here and learned a lot.
