20120313 Livingstone LA to Rusk TX 330 miles

Cloudy & some mist/fog at start to cloudy and warm at end.

We slept in by accident (or not caring), had breakfast, and departed Lakeview RV Park. It's ok, we'll probably stay here again on the way back.

On I-12W, which merged into I-10W and into the terrible traffic approaching the bridge over the Mississippi at Baton Rouge. On the west side of the bridge, we switched over to US-190 heading west, which parallels the interstate but has much less traffic, and has some scenery. It has nearly no altitude, however. The GPS gave our altitude (in the truck, mind you) as 10 to 12 feet whenever we looked at it there in the swamp. Recent rains have some of the fields flooded, or maybe they're always that way.

US-190 eventually turned northwest, which we wanted. We followed it gaining altitude, finally crossing the Sabine River and entering Texas. At Jasper TX we changed to TX-63 to continue NW, then onto US-69 to the KOA at Rusk.

The KOA is a pretty place, not for the place itself but because it is at the highest point in Cherokee county. You can see several lines of hills to the west from our spot.

We went into Rusk to get groceries at the Brookside's market, a nice store with friendly folks who went out of their way to have us find things. We stopped at a Mexican place on the way back for enchilada's – good enough and filling, but I wouldn't send anyone else there.

Then we took time in the trailer doing these notes and answering e-mail. Now that sunset is here, I'm going to sit outside and watch it, perhaps with a beverage.

We watched and took pictures that won't be very useful due to the clouds. The wine was good, though. A bug or two and the slight breeze that came up chased us into the trailer.

Now we'll finish the chores and read. D says there isn't much TV on Tuesdays.
