20120316 Wichita Falls TX to Altus AFB at Altus OK about 100 miles
I got up with a severely bruised toe from have stubbed it on a footstool last night. Looks terrible. For once, I'm happy the feeling has been reduced in my extremities due to chemo drugs. (Ed. note: The toe was X-rayed and found to be broken after our return to PCB)
After shrieking about poor internet performance, this morning it ran somewhat well. Either I've become inured to it or it really is better. Ran performance checks on it – it's running 176 kbps – still poor.
So we left Coyote Creek Resort and headed west on US-287. Stopped near Vernon for diesel, turned north on US-283 and 40 miles later we pulled into the Air Force base at Altus. We checked in at Outdoor Recreation and paid our $11 per night fee, then went to the FAMCAMP and set up. We walked across the street to the commissary and exchange and bought a few things.
We called Randy on both numbers we had (both invalid). So we went to the house and found him cleaning a floor jack. We got new numbers for them. We chatted a bit, then made plans to see him for dinner at The Plaza, the new restaurant in town. AM is working tonight so she can't be with us.
We stopped at a store whose name cannot be mentioned to get a few things we really need that can't be found anywhere else.
We had a fine dinner at The Plaza and talked some more. Then we returned to the house to chat some more. We petted Holly the dog and petted the cat. Finally quit around 10:30 to return to our little house on wheels. We promised to call them in the morning and meet them mid-morning to go do something.
AM probably got into a maintenance problem on a C-17 that needed her beyond her normal shift – we'll see her tomorrow.

Up for breakfast then call Randy & AM. Agreed to be at their house at 1030.
We arrived and chatted for a while then decided to take a ride toward the Wichita mountains east of here, near Lawton.
We wandered around in the animal preserve and saw a few prairie dogs at their playground. I guess the rest decided it was too windy for safety and stayed underground. There were many individual buffalos around, but no big here. No longhorn cattle at all were seen.
The campgrounds are expanding around the lakes north of Lawton, but Randy couldn't figure out why. There are seldom any boats out on the lake, so why to people come to the lake?
We looked at the old stage stop at Mears, where they have some fine 1-pound hamburgers, but the line was out the door and around the side of the building – too long a wait for us.
So we went into Lawton and wound up at Mutti's German restaurant. Sam (Samantha) and her boy friend Curt caught up to us there. We all had plenty of food. Then we headed back to the house while Sam & Curt went exercising.
Sam will soon receive her Bachelor of Nutritional Therapy from Oklahoma State U. She exercises, lifts weights and is in great shape. She wants to go on and get more education in Physical Therapy. She has her eye on one multi-site school, but is open as to where.
We returned to the house and talked; we played with the cat and the dog. We chatted about this and that. We sort of watched a little TV out of one eye while chatting. Sam came in and we talked with her and got a couple of pictures.
Then Sam left around 2300, so we followed soon thereafter. D's mass is at 0900 tomorrow, so we'll have to get up early.
Windy out of the SSE tomorrow and we're going south after church. Chance of rain is 50% or so. Might be a slow day, but we're only going half-way to Austin, about 170 miles. No sweat.
'night.
