20120318 Altus AFB to Cisco, TX 180 miles Cloudy, windy
Up a little earlier than usual. Breakfast.
Took D to church, got diesel fuel, returned to trailer and did a few prep-for-underway things, then back to get D.
We finished readying the trailer and checked the tires at the base gas station. Then away.
Since we were in no hurry and since we were heading directly into a gale-force wind, we throttled back to 55 mph and dawdled along. We still suffered from poor fuel mileage, but so it goes.
The route was straight down US-283, then US-183. Quiet Sunday morning. I think four cars passed us in the first 100 miles. Towns looked deserted but for the dog. Lots of cattle of various breeds. Flat ground with small ridges – you can see all the way from one to the next. Many ranch signs showing the brand.
We pulled in to the Executive Inn in Cisco and checked in for the connected RV park. Office smelled of curry. Found our little slot and backed in; didn't bother to disconnect or even to put down the jacks. Just plugged in the power and laid back with a glass.
Then we got into a big hassle with the Wifi. We couldn't connect for love nor money. Jeff next door came over but he couldn't figure it out – except he was running just fine. Finally had the head-shed reset the router after which all was well.
Then my new iPhone gave an alarm, saying “No SIM card”. Now I'll have to get into that when we get to a AT&T store. Humph.
We made up a chicken-rice-salad dinner and enjoyed it. Then we got comfy, planning not to go out of the trailer again today. Now we're watching golf, reading, and doing computer things.
Hmm.... The trailer is bouncing around a little in the wind. Might have to go out and set down the rear jacks for stability.
