Link To Pictures
Decided to take it easy today. Since the Tantalus drive starts just the other side of the Punchbowl, we drove it to get pictures. There's a nice little state park up there with a viewpoint over all the city. We did the drive, stopping at several places for pictures and got some very nice ones.
Then we headed for Schofield Barracks. We passed the cemetery we tended previously and continued over Kolekole Pass. It is a gap in the mountain range on the Leeward side of the island. We got some pictures up there as well. They're doing one-way traffic over the pass due to a landslide that undermined one lane in the Navy end of the road. Schofield to Lualualei in the pm and the other way in the am. Lualualei is the Naval Ammunition Depot that stores munitions for all services.
We thought to go north toward Kaena Point and find someplace for lunch. We got north of Waianae without finding much so we turned around. Coming back, the traffic on Farrington Highway was fierce, most of it due to an accident. Finally we found a turnoff for the Makaha Valley Resort. Their informal dining area is open to the public so we had lunch there, on a balcony overlooking the golf course with a distant view of the sea.
Then we fought our way down to the old Barber's Point air station area and across H-1 to the condo with a stop at Safeway.
Dinner was ribs and roasted potatoes with salad and squash. Very nice.
Then we chatted until we went to bed.
