We did some traveling and touristing today.
Susan came to the little house with the car and continued south with us in it to Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Center. We wandered all through it (great facility) exclaiming about the things in it, and taking pictures. We had a light lunch in the cafeteria. Then we visited the store and purchased a couple of things including a small soft armadillo for grandson Jamie.
Off again. Susan took us for a nice drive into West Austin and along the Colorado River. We wandered through various housing areas (there are some large homes here) and a marina. We stopped for coffee at Mozart's on the river – lots of younger folks with their laptops enjoying the outside air and free wi-fi.
We went then to Susan & Bryant's house and talked and played with cats. We found a squished scorpion in their driveway, obviously run over by their car but we don't know when.
Bryant's new iPad failed last night after we left; he was in touch with various Apple stores to get a replacement this morning. One store (the southerly of two) wouldn't tell him anything about whether they had one to give him, and was rather off-putting altogether. So we went to his workplace, picked him up, and went to the north store, in The Domain.
Bryant received a replacement iPad. Dolores made the decision and purchased a new iPad also, along with its insurance and a case. We put all our goodies (old and new) in the trunk of the car (two new iPads, one original iPad, two Macbooks, accessories).
Then we dashed down I-35 into downtown. We wandered around downtown looking at the stores and capital/government buildings and remarking on the liveliness of the place. There are many downtown residents, so the place (unlike our town) doesn't close down at 5:30pm.
We went south of the river to get to a truck food lot. This is a parking lot with several trucks and/or trailers in it that prepare foods of great variety, and has seating. Like an outside food court. We jumped on the Tex-Mex (here, it's just “food”) for tacos and enjoyed them. Then we went to another lot for doughnuts – huge stuffed doughnuts (mine was raspberry & chocolate).
We took what we couldn't finish along, and were dropped off at our little house in the RV park for the quiet part of the evening. Tomorrow night we do a fancy dinner out on Lake Travis.
Dolores stayed up late with her new iPad. Loves it.
