We had the day (until 4pm) to ourselves, so we loafed in the morning and then took a ride out into the “hill country” to look for wildflowers.
We went north and a little west to Burnet and stopped for lunch. Then we went west and north of Burnet on Ranch Road 2341 toward Buchanan Lake (man-made, very much lower than designed depth).
There were bluebonnets and phlox and indian paintbrush all along the shoulders of the roads, and some fields were filled with flowers. Dolores took many pictures and went “oooh” often.
We turned around to arrive at S&B's around 4pm. Took pictures of the old, restored, railroad depot in Bertram. The sign on it says, “Austin and Texas Central RR”, which is the railroad owned by the city of Austin. The Austin Steam Train Association is an active organization which runs passenger train excursions on this track; they did the restoration on the depot. The line has freight service, and part of it is used for commuter trains from Leander to Austin.
We arrived at S&B's at 4pm on the dot. Susan was cooking wild boar. She left to get Bryant while Dolores watched the pot. When Bryant arrived, we started watching pictures we took on our London trip last year.
Then we ate the wild boar and rice with red cabbage slaw and a bottle of Chook Sparkling Shiraz. It was unusual and very good.
We got back to the pictures and watched them until it was time for us to leave so those living a regular life could prepare for the next day.
Back to the little house and to bed.
