Susan & Bryant came to the house and took us to the farmer's market in downtown Austin. Great market, full of stands, and people and dogs. They picked up their weekly consignment from their co-op and we looked at lots of things.

We brought the food back to the little house to put into the refrigerator while we went out to the southeast to Lockhart, TX. Lockhart prides itself on being “The BBQ Capital of Texas”. There, we entered Smitty's Meats. There is a large dungeon with many wood-fired cookers going. The food line enters this room; you tell them how many pounds of brisket, shoulder, pork chop, etc., you want. It is sliced and laid onto butcher paper and weighed. You pay and take your stuff into the next room wherein you find another line and three very long tables. You pick your RC or beer and potato salad and goodies, pay for it and take a place at one of the tables.

You are given extra butcher's paper and spread one at your seat, then take (by hand – no forks allowed) a slab of beef to your paper. You take a serrated plastic knife and cut it into pieces, put hot sauce on it and eat it. We all thought the beef was good, and that the pork chop was excellent. The hot sausage ring was also excellent. The potato salad was bland, but the dill pickles were great. The RC cola was also nice – hadn't had one in years.

We walked the courthouse square for a moment, then took a ride over toward San Marcos and then up into Austin. S&B dropped us at the little house so they could go on to their appointment. We'll meet again tomorrow.

We sat for a bit, then I decided to return to Uncle Billy's next door. So I did.

It wasn't jammed, but there were plenty of people there. A mix of young and older this time, mainly in small groups or couples. The wide-open windows helped the “nice day” atmosphere.

Then back to the little house to wait to take Dolores to church this evening so we don't have to do it tomorrow morning.

I took her to a church of her choosing. It has terribly narrow streets around it, so when I returned I had to park some distance away and walk up to meet her. We returned then to the little house for dinner and relaxation.

Several days ago, I banged my foot into a footstool and injured a toe. Big bruise. Tonight, I asked Dolores to toss the ballpoint pen to me. She missed the table with it and (of course) hit the toe in question. Ouch.
