20120322 Austin TX Cool am, warmer later

No pictures.

Slow start, by design. Coffee, breakfast.

Did some “little house” maintenance (shower curtain, tank draining, took out the trash). Then went to the market down the street to get milk, bananas & eggs. There, I found a wine Dolores loved in Australia – The Chook Sparkling Shiraz, so I purchased one of them also. When I returned, I found Dolores wants to give that one to Susan, so I'll have to go back for another one later.

We spoke with Susan and found she'd been pumping up a friend whose aunt died today. We agreed to scale back our plans for the afternoon and stay around the house so she can do more of that if needed.

We stopped on our way to Susan's to visit the AT&T store again. I purchased a new protector/belt case for the iPhone and we put D's iPhone on the insurance plan.

Susan served lunch when we arrived and we chatted. We decided to be practical and went to a store and then to Susan's Central Marked at 40th and Lamar – a huge place with all sorts of goodies. It's not a Wegman's with fancy setups, it looks more like a warehouse but it has everything.

Back at the house, we talked and played with the animals.

Then we went off to dinner with a capital D. Hudson's On The Bend is the name of the place, an old stone house expanded into a fine-dining venue. Game is the differentiating item here – all sorts of game on the menu.

We did the three-course fixed-price with paired wines. Some had a great lobster bisque, but I had a good greens salad with a nice dressing – paired with a good NZ riesling. Then three had elk while I had trout, with a Pinot Noir. We had desserts (I had turtle – a nut thing covered with chocolate and sided with berries. We left full and happy. The waitress was not as sharp as we would have wanted – a downer.

Tomorrow S&B are doing their own thing and so are we.
